Sadly John Burbidge died today, locally known as the “Cat Man” John leaves his wife Teresa, four children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
I have known John since I was fifteen. John was a Caterpillar engineering mastermind and a brilliant welder. He has suffered with bad health for several years which slowed him up at times. I was surprised to see him at the recent Link AGM at Barry Cossletts and he did attend both days of the “Muck Shifting Event”. This last week he has been repairing the track frame on a D6 4R
Once John has had a well deserved rest I hope the good lord puts him to work restoring all the old Caterpillars that have ended their life in the iron!
John's Funeral will be held at Market Harborough Town Centre Church, 12.30 on Wednesday 6th July 2011

Paul,
I echo your sentiments, John was a constant source of knowledge and guidance for me.
I thought I would share this picture of John running up the starting engine from my 9U for the first time after he had rebuilt it in 2009.

Thats is a great photo of John , David. He enjoyed the muckshifting event organised by Paul the other Saturday. Had a good chat with him at that event about things he had been working on. If you were stuck on a restoration job,and wanted advise,he was just a phonecall away.Always helpfull.
What else can one say, a smashing bloke, vast amount of knowlege. He will be missed by all.No doubt about that.
