Scary to think about now, but back in the early 80's there was a pipeline project running through Berkshire/Buckinghamshire somewhere and at the time I was doing some ag contracting with one of these...
I was going from one farm to another when I came to a metal bridge about 7' wide over a very deep trench. The header was 12' wide but as the bridge had no guard rails as such, and only a raised foot high edge that wasn't an issue although there was a debate about weight (apparently it was only designed for cars) but the site foreman was happy to see me across. I didn't immediatly notice all work had stopped to watch me cross until I realised the front tyres were actually perched on top of the raised edges of the bridge. Don't somehow think I'd get away with it now.
