Dampers for an old Ford/IVECO Cargo

Post #1 by Julian » Wed Jul 29, 2009 10:08 pm

Just on the off-chance that someone here's into truck service and parts.

I'm having difficulty getting some new rear dampers for the wife's horsebox (MOT time again :( )

It's a 1992 0811 (7.5 ton) model. Fleet Factors in Middlewich are on the case but not having much luck because the vehicle isn't listed in their computer system on account of the vehicle's age.

I removed a damper to look for part numbers but no luck because of so much rust, but I did take some measurements of the mounting eyes - 5/8'' and max extension - 25"

Anyone with any pointers? I'd be very grateful thanks :)

Julian.

Try Ford Cargo Spares - 0800 0435 122 or 01373 822328
They deal with the more "mature" cargo

Cheers. When I got home from work today I phoned Fleet Factors and they had managed to find two dampers for me - somewhere in England but they'll have them for me for Monday.

I have made a note of those numbers for next time though. Stuff for the old Cargo is getting a right bugger to find, I had to dismantle and free off the rear load sensing valve last year,(not designed to come apart so I had to drill out a rivet) because I just could not find a new one at any price :(

It'll be too much work to keep going in a year or so, which is a real shame because that big non-turbo 6 cylinder diesel in it is so dependable.

Glad you are sorted Julian, any further problems give me or my brother Graham a shout. ( he's on here as our kid) He spent many years at quicks in the parts department and has developed contacts...
did you know there was a branch of fleet factors in Ellesmere Port? just a little closer to home perhaps.
there are old fitters and bold fitters but no old bold fitters...
