simplest way to wire a dynamo..? please help, very confused...

Post #1 by total-tree-care » Fri Nov 29, 2013 5:06 pm

ok so i have a mk1 jcb 3c, starts on the button, but for the love of me cannot fathom what the hell the previous owner has done with all the electrickery...

the belt driven dynamo produces current from both terminals! :D
the motor starts on the button!! :D
but no power makes it back to the battery
i have replaced the non functioning charge light and that now stays illuminated whilst running, so defo no charge..
the old jcb wiring diagram shows things that i dont have, and on the flip side doesnt show what i do have..
the ammeter i have is connected to the power on the starter motor, and the other terminal to A1,

so from what i can work out there is a non original control box/regulator, that is a normal FADE type, albeit i have A1/A/F/D/E/
there are connections to this box but other than the earth they are all the same red coloured wire, and it is proving difficult to trace them back..

so the question i want to put to you guys is.. what is the simplest way to pull power from the old school dynamo to the battery with a working indicator light.. im sure there must be a simple wiring solution to this problem..

LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR REPLIES GUYS, THANKYOU IN ADVANCE!!

Josh

simplest way to get power is take dynamo of and use it as a door stop
fit an alternator more relabable and way more charge in 2 battery
simple to wire up 2
and chaep of ebay or scrappy ect just get a lucas 18acr or equivelent and you wont go far wrong

take a thick wire strait from your batery live to big conection on alternater
and take a thin wire from ign switch thru charge light on2 small terminal

if i dont want origanality just a charged battery i go alternater route every time
the older the plant , the more i like it ,
im dislesik so escuse my spelin gramer
I crushed my spine years ago and im soposed 2 b in a wheel chair
so every day when i wake up and my legs still work is like crimbo day

this is the route i am now going to take, i just have to overcome the small electrical fire i had, as a result of the previous owners attempt of wiring,
do you no the process to short/hot wire the starter and remove all other wiring so the starter can run independant of anything else until i get my hands on an alternator, and also get a chance to rewire the complete machine?

yes its easy
you nead 2 heavy leads to ur batery ( ur batery cables )
your positive goes from ur batery terminal to the nut on ur starter soloide
your negative goes to the (earthin) terminal on ur starter basikly a nut were starter bolts into place next to gbox/fly wheel this lead can go any ware on to frame work but make sure its clean\
you then nead a small wire from (spade terminal) on solonoide
if you were to flash this lead on2 ur live ur solonoide engages , startor spins eng starts
but what you do is run this lead via ur ign switch starter position
so you turn the key to start position , enegises small lead works solonoide spins starter starts motor if i could segest one thing id fit itsa batery isolation switch ( all my machines have them)
simply put a bat isolation switch in the negative lead between bat terminal and were you are fixing on frame work starter ect
that way you can isolate batery easly it also stops batery drain if let for long period
hope this mkes sence if your stil strugalin PMme and ill give u my tel number and ill talk u thru
