Dropping Jib

Post #1 by Chris Vince » Wed May 22, 2013 8:43 am

Gents,
May I ask your advice please?
I have a Richard Smalley 430 Gravedigger (a toy compared to what you blokes know), it is in perfect working order and has electric servo operated hydraulics.
The only thing that niggles me is that given 5 minutes that jib will creep down until the bucket hits the ground.
There are no hydraulic leaks externally, would I be on the right lines in thinking that the fluid may be bypassing the internal ram seals?
Or could it be bypassing the servo valve?
I welcome your opinions.
Chris

Hi Chris, I have exactly the same problem with my new to me JCB 3CX. My cousin who is an expert in these things advises me it is the internal seals causing the problem,
hope this helps,

cheers Rod

Hi Chris,
Ram seals is certainly the most likely cause of your problem.
Check them first.

Sadly, I thought seals so replaced them but the problem is exactly the same.
Cylinder bore all good, I now think there must be an overload/pressure release valve that needs adjustment or replacement.
