JCB 3D 1977 will go forwards but not backwards

Post #1 by smartin_1 » Tue Feb 19, 2013 9:18 am

Sorry if my last post confused its a JCB!

Can anybpdy help please? I have a 1977 JCB 3D with the most amazing engine (leyland) but after letting somebody else use it, I cannot now get it to go backwards. They said it happened over a period of abouit an hour or so but they carried on driving it until it stopped going forwards as well.

When this happened first I checked the transmission fluid and found it dry. Put 5 litres in and it started to go forwards again but not back.

Can anybody offer any suggestions? It doesn't make any nasty noises and it sort of tries to go but doesnt.

Please help

I doubt it will be a 5 on a '77 model. It will be the T/c that forms part of the Leyland tractor skid. If you have topped up and it will go one way but not the other it does sound bad. I suppose the lever and linkage is actually shifting the selector properly?
