Glowplug replacement for I H BD264 and 281 engines

Post #1 by martyn williams » Thu Mar 15, 2012 9:55 am

I have had a lot of calls and emails regarding replacement of glowplugs on BD264 engines. Conversion kits have been available for some time. The original plugs are hard to get hold of and also expensive. The original plugs were wired in series with a resistor, this dropped the voltage to around 6 volts. Some people have made the mistake of putting battery voltage straight to the plugs to test them and not using the resistor, damaging the glowplugs.
The conversion kit is simple to fit and will give more heat than the original making engine starting from cold much better.
Photo shows the adaptor and glowplug, this screws into the body of the injector holder that once held the original glowplug. The kit comes with all the bridgeing cables and instructions.
The cost of the kit is around £150,it also fits the BD281 engines

Are the originals the same as Series Landrover:

These are not that expensive.

Glowplug replacement for IH BD264 and 281 engines New Run GREAT

Post #7 by farmall8450 » Sat Apr 21, 2012 6:27 pm

This subjekt is really interesting since someone over here has a real good solution for this problem. He produced new ones.....

The Landrover don't work because tread isn't OK.
I already tried this.

Over here in Holland I med a guy on a swap meeting who has connections with an German automotive company wich has on it's turn some important connections with BERU .He ordered for the Dutch market 320 pieces glow plugs (That would be 80 Farmall Super BMD's or B-450 or any machine with BD-264 engine) for Farmall with this particular engine on special order at the factory. Also the great quality of BERU he told me.He says the kits available on market is bad quality plug and silly adaptor. He owns 3 Farmall's with BD-264 engine. So for himself it was OK and the the rest he sells away.320 was minimum run number for productionrun. He told me he already sold to England and Australia. That could be the reason for special production batch for market wich requires........

Its a a real strange glow plug to see but fits perfect since last summer imounted.Doesn't look like the picture above posted already and no adaptor required.Only the original mounting nut.It also really long 13cm total length.

He lives in east Netherlands.Speaks English very well.He also sells tractor gauges of real good quality for Farmall and many other brands. Not available in England by suppliers....

My Farmall SBMD runs and start as never before did unbelivable.I can recommend this fellow for sure.Cost arounds 160 Euro to me but worth it for sure.

Maybe a good message and for you it's helpfull.

Thanks from Jan

Some photos of the modification.Note resistor bypassed so the ful 12 volts gets to the glowplug. Compare the original plugs to the mod ones. And the plugs wired up.Much more reliable plus gives off greater heat at the tips as you can see

I just bought a set from Forge services for my BTD6 drott
and then discovered I could get something closer to home For AD264 engine (is AD264 an Australian version or just a Typo)
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GPK4403-Glow-Plug-Kit-International-AWD6-AWD7-A554-564-Tractor-w-IH-AD264-Engine-/271290757911?pt=AU_HeavyMachineryParts&hash=item3f2a307317
also has pictorial instructions too, Did notice a thing at the bottom requiring a spacer for dozer engines Hope this is helpful. :geek:
