Post #1 by 4020 » Thu Mar 19, 2009 9:12 pm

Hi, new to the forum, i have recenty bought a 2500hr 307b to replace a 7 tonne Komatsu, it is ex hewden hire, i'm very pleased with it and it drives very smooth, only problem i have it lack's power when digging as if the pump has been backed off, can the pump be adjusted to gain more power? engine hardly changes note when digging.

Thank's

is the throttle cable hitting the stops on the fuel pump, is it reaching high idle.the hydraulic pumps my be backing off to early due to a simple engine rpm problem.

Not sure if the engine is reaching max rpm (will check) but it is reving over 2000, does the engine need to be a max rpm before the pumps give max pressure, my neighbour has a old 307 (98) on the farm and when digging the engine works hard, mine barely changes note

Adam - I did exactly the same thing a couple of years ago with a low houred 307B and nearly cried when I drove it off the low loader - The whole machine was underpowered and very slow. I got CAT out to do a pressure check on the the pumps and after an hour they said all was ok and this was just the type of machine it was - Tears in my eyes I proceeded to carry on. All the drivers looked and looked for power buttons switches etc with no avail - Untill one day while tracking down a field I flicked a swich on the left hand side behind the joystick - Whooshhh off the machine went - (Hitachi speed) :D We all thought this switch was a switch you would use for starting in artic conditions  I have been delighted with the machine ever since. If only your problem was so easily fixed - let me know if you join the    club. Incidently you'd have thought the CAT service engineer would have known about this switch

Thanks for you replies, yes found the power button and it works, still could do with a little extra power 8-)
May be worth getting the pumps tested, may have to give our local CAT dealer a call?

I am very happy with the machine and love driving it, it's smooth, very precise and make's grading (80% of our work) so easy compared to the Komatsu, the blade button on the joystick is an excellent idea, it's not easy finding 7tonners on 600mm steel and a long dipper without zero tail.

When i bought the machine (2 months ago) i repainted it (old cat yellow) and fully serviced it, all manuals and service history were in the back of the cab, hyraulic oil was changed and filters, old filters and oil were exceptionally clean, nice to see a bit of thought gone into the service routine when building it, unlike my JS130 anyone who has changed the engine filters will know what i'm on about
