Jcb 3CX brakes
Just been to look at a 1993 L reg 3cx project 8 (i think) checked everything that i could think of on it one bit of play in the steering ram eye which a bush would sort out, but the brakes were not particularly good the transmission was very strong and would still drive the machine on tickover when i was trying to brake the pedal was going a long way down anyone know what this could be. Thanks

hi david
did the brakes squawk when you applied the brakes?
could just be master cylinders or brake discs worn.

Re: Jcb 3CX brakes
I didn't really hear any noises when i pushed the pedal, i am wondering if there was some air in them although i pumped the pedal and it did not improve at all, iI may still take a chance a buy the machine and first of bleed the old oil out and add new oil to see if that makes a difference.

Hi David
if you do buy the machine or go to view it again have a look in the brake reservoir and see if you can smell the oil.
these machines should not have brake fluid in them just hydraulic oil hp15.
if someone has put brake fluid in there by mistake it can destroy the seals.
best of luck

Thanks, i did check the fluid levels but did not think to smell the fluid, i have to say it did look old it certainly was not a clear fluid, i have found out that it is a back axle out job to do the brake plates about a days work, would proberly try the fresh fluid and as the system is open maybe new master cylinders they are not very expensive then a good bleed may bring the brakes back up.
