Liebher electrics

Post #1 by hair bear » Fri Mar 25, 2016 11:13 pm

This is a long shot but here goes...
I've been asked to have a look at a Liebher 360 digger. At this time the model and age are unknown. I'm told the ignition key switch fell apart and has been replaced with an oem unit. It starts and runs ok, tracks ok, but no other controls work. I can only assume at the moment that one wire is in the wrong place on the back of the key as if there was a fault in the dead mans switch nothing would work. Unfortunately I didn't see it beforehand so I've no idea what I'm getting myself into. It worked ok before the switch broke so I can't believe it can be anything other than a misplaced wire unless a fuse has blown when the switch was being changed.
Am I heading the right way on this or are there likely to be many possible issues?

Have now established it is a Leibher 900, still don't know the build date though.

Hi Rob I am no electrical expert but if its a later machine it will be fitted with the Liebherr Litronic system which is a computerised control system for the hydraulic functions so perhaps your troubles lie there?

Having only seen it from a distance so far, I think it's probably about 20 years old but you have made me wonder if the problem could be that the new switch needs programming to the machine in a similar way that modern cars need to coded to accept replacement parts.
If I get time tomorrow I will try to get my mitts on it and find out a bit more.

Does the new switch have any electronics to read the key or is it a standard key with no chip?

OOh, that's something else to consider...
I did set out today with the intention of having a look to see what may be going on but then got ever so slightly sidetracked, jumped on the quad and went playing in the mud instead. Priorities you see.

Well, there you go..
While I'm playing in the mud my mate goes out to look at this machine, gives the ceramic fuses a wiggle and away it went. Owner was so pleased he went straight off across the field and promptly ran out of diesel!
And I'm now starting to think it wasn't all mud. Hmm...
