Ford 550, hydraulic power.

Post #1 by crofter 65 » Sat Jan 25, 2014 4:23 pm

I have a Ford 550 that I bought last year, I have not done a lot of work with it yet but to day I was shifting a heap of ground and found the back actor struggled to lift a full bucket when fully extended, the back actor bucket is 24" so I would not think it's to big, also it won't lift the machine of the ground with the back actor even close in. I have changed the hydraulic oil filter to no avail and was just wondering if there was anything to check before I start looking for a new pump. p.s. it will lift a reasonable amount in the front bucket.
I have no experience of this type of machine as my last digger was a Steelfab digger on the back of an International B 275,

Regards,
Ronnie  .

Hi Ronnie, have just seen your post. Have you solved the problem? If not, there may be gauze or other type filter in the system which may need cleaning or replacement. Next step might be to have a pressure test done before shelling out for a new pump, just in case,

good luck
