Spark plugs

Post #1 by martyn williams » Sun Feb 20, 2011 11:47 am

I don't know if the restorers amongst you have had problems with Champion spark plugs.
They seem to break down after a short time of useage ie 6 donkey engine start ups.
Just wondered if the modern plug can't take the output of a magneto.

iv had issues with Champion spark plugs on the mini. so it could be a bad batch. that said from the top of my head coil packs / magneto dont push out anything like voltage /power of electrical ignition systems 10kv to 15kv in comparison to 30kv or more.

It seem the Champion plug problem has been going on for a long time, the boys on the ACMOC and Redpower have had the same problem.

When I started in the garden machinery business 40 years ago we expected to get one duff Champion in every box of 10. Switched to NGK then and can't remember when we last had a bad one.
