Bucyrus International, Inc. has announced the introduction of the HydraCrowd, the company’s newest electric shovel crowd technology. The system is designed to eliminate the need for rope crowd change intervals, saving a mine operator on average, the equivalent to three days of lost production per year. This amounts to an annual revenue gain that approaches US$5M in certain mineral applications.
The HydraCrowd features a hydraulic cylinder inside the tubular dipper handle which replaces the traditional crowd retract ropes, or rack and pinion gearing. Major maintenance is scheduled every 24 months, a significant time saving compared to conventional crowd systems, with increased safety. The HydraCrowd system is controlled with Bucyrus IGBT technology, and has complete diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities. The HydraCrowd ensures each shovel will be able to deliver maximum productivity in the harshest environments.
The HydraCrowd is available on most 495 Shovels, for both new machines and as a retrofit on existing machines.
