JCB 3CX transmission oil leak from dipstick tube

Post #1 by wings400 » Mon Sep 03, 2012 1:03 pm

Hello dear friends,

there is transmission oil leaking from the dipstick tube of the gearbox. There is no water contamination, and hydraulic oil is not leaking into the gearbox. The leak is not caused by overfilling - when the transmission leaks oil there is less and less as the time passes.

First time I was thinking it could be caused by the clutch, but it is still leaking even when the JCB is not moving, and the oil is not boiling. It looks like some kind of pressure is building up in there and because of it is the oil leaking from the dipstick tube. Could it be some kind of a foul vent?

Its a JCB 3CX SuperSitemaster y.2002

I will be happy for any suggestions, I really do not know what could be causing it. Thank you.

(sorry for my bad English)

Thank you for your reply. Can you tell me where is it located? From the bottom I do not see nothing. The gearbox is not dismounted from the machine. Can I reach it from somewhere and clean it? Thanks in advance.

I seem to remember the Leyland engine and BorgWarner velvet shuttle filter were the same.

Gearbox does have a filter yes, top side of the box, can only see it from underneath, always get a nice trickle down your arm when you change it.
