Hi great to meet everybody at Hillhead yesterday! fantastic show, so i thought i would post some of my photos from down the years. Bit of a varied selection and if someone thinks they should go in a different place feel free to move to different topics.

Me cutting my teeth on my grandfathers Whitlock 505B on our self build development in Tonyrefail South Wales.

Look at the price of the road tax for 12 months in 1970 on the logbook for the D1000 turbo Ford D Series in the photo above......... if only

Finally for the time being one of my father with his brand new Leyland 2421 constructor mixer, hadn't even done a load at this point

Hi Ian, :think: the third photo down, the 505 parked up, do my eyes deceive me but is the dipper missing ?

Hi Martin, you are right the dipper arm is missing!. We broke the original dipper ram digging through some incredibly hard ground and stone. We tried to repair it but there was so much power in the back end of a Whitlock that she just ripped the ram apart!.If you look closely at the photo above you will see that we had to run hydraulic pipes right the way up the boom because when the ram broke she sheared the metal pipes across the boom which came out either side!. We then found a fella who had an interest inold JCB's and he adapted an old JCB ram to fit and rebushed the dipper arm while he was doing the ram.

What a great set of old picures thanks for sharing them, there is something nice and simple about the older machines, i wish i had taken more photos during the 70's. If you have anymore pics please post them.

new by me in 1974 still own it used in southampton area for 6 yrs in ireland since 1980 James
