Eh? Surely both engines will run very nicely when lubricated with Mk1 slippery engine oil :P

Hl,
If it has an inline injector pump, (pipes connected in a row at the top) it's a Leyland, if its a rotary pump it'll be a Perkins.

Leylands departed the white cab 3cx in 1981/82.

thanks guys

were the different perkins with different oil capacities?

is it, mineral, semi, fully syn?

any recommendations on changing? any oddities? is there a need to prime the filter etc or just drop the oil, replace filter & top back up

will change the transmission oil next I guess....

Hi, if its an 89 then its a Perkins phaser 1000 series. Holds approx 11 litres of ordinary 15W40 oil. No oddities except if its a turbo machine make sure the engine does not start until the oil light goes out.
Earlier perkins engines in JCB were the 4.236 up until the P7 grey cab was introduced.
Hope this helps.

it does, thanks Mosta, going shopping for oil etc this morn.

been reading the service manual I downloaded & it look like there's a fair few other filters, oils & ATFs I should be looking at to.

I dont think shes had much attention over time so a complete filter & liquids change would be a good idea.

I boufght a filter kit from diggerparts.com (very helpfull guys as it goes) not had a look at what's included but hoping all teh important stuff is included.

what other parts would you guys look at, read about a shuttle box, transfer box, sysnc box etc, is the transmission then seperate to all these??

complicated beast but worth doing as many of them as I can as she'll be with us a long time

sorry for all the questions :(

Nick
