New oner of JCB 3D

Post #1 by Tim_Arnold » Sun Aug 14, 2011 12:20 am

Just bought this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290591257501&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT every thing works except most of the lights, the gauges seem to work since pressure washing inside and out. even the brakes work a bit. the bad bits are cab quite badly rusted and its had a big bash on the front corner. I intend to do it up a bit, not a full restoration just stop it from deteriorating any further.

If anyone can help me source a manual that would be a good starting place.

That is quite a straight old machine you have got there, i did look at it myself, hopefully you can get that kingpost sliding across the back of the machine again, i doubt if it is anything serious, it is proberly one of the clamps or it may even just be seized, if you keep your eye out on Ebay you will fine the engine manuals and workshop manuals do turn up quite often (i got all of mine on there) there are also the disc versions on there at the moment. Good luck

Hi Tim, nice machine, welcome to the 3D owners club  As Martyn said manual is here in the downloads section. Anything else you need just ask as i have lots of info on these machines including full parts manuals and numbers. Please don't buy any manuals from e-bay without asking me first, because if I have it then its free to all forum members  Cheers for now Mark :D

Thanks for the link for the manual, it appears that i need a lot of hydraulic fluid, anyone point me in direction of a good value supplier.

I dont intend doing a full restoration just look after it and give some tlc,

It seems like a lot of others on here it makes me sad to see old machines rotting away or cut up for scrap.

Tim I just got 200 litres of hydraulic oil that had only done 22 hours in a machine. Friend off mine works for a plant firm, they changed the oil on this machine then it threw the hydro pump, so they drained the whole lot off when they fitted the new pump (warranty job) :dizzy: lucky me eh! All that aside, we have a couple of firms here that sell off the old oil, I know its not the way to go but at 50p a litre its a cheap way of keeping an old leaky machine running. there might be some place around your way that would do the same for you if you dont mind using old oil. One place here even filters the oil before they resell. Mark.

I'm exactly the same as Mark. I never buy hydraulic fluid. I only use secondhand. As long as its filtered it'll work fine. Just out of curiosity how much is hydraulic fluid now? About a couple of years ago I think I saw some for sale at around £30 for 20 litres.
