Thanks for that i have found it, is the filling done via the plate at the rear of the kingpost where a pipe goes into the middle of it. Or is there another filling hole.

I am doing that also. When I started to take of the plate with the overflow pipe oil started to flow out. I am now going to see if I can get the allen key plug out. I wonder if the oil is that high due to water in the slew actuator?
I had a look at the manual but no clear indication where to fill.
Keen for any answer on the filling.
Thanks
John

Re: JCB 3C11 Back actor play
On a similar theme .....
I tried to change the actuator oil on my 3CIII last year and was unable to remove the drain plug due to it being badly worn. It looks as though the body of the actuator has been scraping along the ground a lot over the years and there is hardly any depth to the recess on the drain plug on it's outer edge. It's stuck solid!
At the time I was planning to change the seals on the actuator ram anyway so was able to drain the oil when the pots were removed and then tried to syringe out any remaining oil.
It was very difficult trying to remove and then replace the pots. Can anyone advise as to the best way of doing this?

Re: JCB 3C11 Back actor play
Well I finally was able to remove both plugs.
One was actually scraped so much (back one) that it looked as though it was welded in
About 1.5 lts water (spilled out at once) and about 2lts of oil glug slowly dripped out over a few days. I poured about 500mls of desiel in with a syringe to try and loosen the gluggy oil. Closed the plug for a day and then released it. It loosened the oil a bit but still very slowly dripping out.
I think I will put 4.5Lts HD80-90 in and work it for a few days and then redrain and refill. Oh Once I get the backhoe back working
Any ideas?
thanks
John

I am presuming you mean automatic transmission fluid?

Can anyone tell me if the top plate should be flat. Just removed mine and its full of water. The plate also has two bolts snapped off in the actor, and appears to be bowed. Does the plate fit flush with the slew assembly ?

If you can see, the plate has been forced at some time in its life, and is curved on all sides. Two bolts have been sheared off, and the remaining two are bent. I've also shown the two drain plugs for the back actor.
