JCB 3C11 Back actor play

Post #1 by chris.moore12 » Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:00 pm

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

I have a 3C11 which I've owned since 2003, she only has occasional use to do some self build and work around the farm but been one of the best investments of my life.

A problem I've always had is that the back actor has a huge amount of overshoot/play which I've learned to cope with but would rather fix. Somebody suggested its easy to do as its just a change in seals. Is this the case ?

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum  On an old machine most likely is a worn slew rack. But also the following may apply. Air trapped in the ARV cavity. (aux relief valve) Dirt on the ARV seat. Dirt in the anti cav valve seat. U/S ARV. U/S Anti cav valve, and the ram seals. Also worth draining of the slew gearbox, its probably got water in it  and refilling with HD90 or similar it takes a gallon. You can download the workshop manual for your machine here. click on downloads search for JCB and follow the links. In fact I'll copy and paste it in a min. Cheers, Mark

Yes Chris definately drain and change the oil in the slewing actuator first and see how you get on. I've just done digger number three and again its 95% water. Was talking to a bloke who has a 3Dmk3 and his is very slow to slew in one direction but ok in the other. I would assume he has water in his actuator as well. In fact I would urge anyone with a 3C/3D machine to get this simple but easily forgotten oil change done.

Just looking at this post can any of you please tell me where the drain plug is for doing this job, i have been looking but can't find it unless is is hidden under a load of mud lol. I just want to do a drain and refill as part of my service routine before i start using my 3c mkII again. thanks in advance

It will more than likely be filled in with mud. Its dead centre on the underside. A 1 inch drive ratchet fits directly into it.
