Hi all, I need to change the rings with out a full engine out tear down, however the sump guard looks like a right bugger to get off. 4 x 1" 1/8th bolts hold it to the chassis but I can only get to one of the nuts. Please don't tell me I've gotta take the engine out either that get Mr Angry grinder out to cut off the bolt head? Am I missing something, surely JCB would not a full engine out just to change for example the sump gasket!!
Many thanks,
Spud
JCB 3C2 Sump Guard
Re: JCB 3C2 Sump Guard
I'm not familiar with the 3C2 but maybe the nuts started life captive or welded in? Barring any obvious method I think I would attack it with the ag and worry about it later.

Afraid so matey, not captive, just good old nuts and bolts. Cut them off and deal with it later.
there are old fitters and bold fitters but no old bold fitters...

Re: JCB 3C2 Sump Guard
strange i have a 3c mk11 and can remove the sump guard with no problem at all ,in fact i did it about three weeks ago to remove the sump and a piston . managed to get spanner on the outside and used a socket through the drain plug cut out on the inside and just over the guard at the the the front . easy no probs at all. anyway good luck.

I honestly can't remember it being a problem either, four 1 1/8th spanner size nuts and bolts, but it was a LONG time ago....
