JCB 3C 2 Hydraulic pipes

Hi guys i need some advice. I was using my trusty 3c2 the other day and it blew a hole in the hydraulics on the backhoe. Ive taken it off and spoke to pirtek and theyve quoted me 150quid + vat for a new hose. As its the first hose ive ever replaced that just seems well expensive and i cant really afford it at the mo. The hose in question is about 2m long with a internal bore of 15mm (number 30 on page 53d of parts manual). I worried as other hoses may need replacing so was wondering can you make them yourself with a kit and connections and is that expensive if so whats the cheapest way to get this sorted.

Also what oil can you use in the leyland 4/98 engine?

Where is the hose fitted? It does seem expensive if it is the standard hose used over most of the machine. Sometimes I used to buy a hose from JCB agent with a part no, they were cheaper than hose specialist. (The agent would make it to a spec, this on an old MK111).
Try an independant as well, they may not have the buying power of a large National but they might be able to undercut. You could also try an agricultural dealer that makes hoses.

Martin, That is ridiculous hoses are not cheap but I would expect to pay considerably less than half that. Most ends are now swaged onto the hose with special equipment so unless your hoses have the old reusable ends you wont be able to do anything yourself. Oil for your engine I dont know but someone on here definately will. All the best

Cheers guys i thought that was pricey. The hose in question is number 30 on the scan if you are able to read it. Its one of 4 hose that go up the backhoe. When i meant can i do my own i meant that if i bought new hose and new fittings and then got a manual swage kit off of ebay would it work or would it be a case of just not worth it as it wont be strong enough

Re oil: If you are not changing between the seasons a multigrade like 10W40 spec for diesels would do.

You don't see re-usable fittings much today and no guarantee of holding.

sounds like a right rip off ive changed loads of pipes over the years on my 3c and never cost me over £50 yet.

Best going to breakers yard for cheap hoses.

I paid £60 for that very hose from a small local Hydraulics place. He made it using parker hose and fittings.

Cheers guys for the replys. What i did is i rang pirtek in bristol and he said about 60 quid so i thought it would be the same at my local branch who i spoke with yesterday so i popped in there with old pipe and he said 154 + vat so i said no way and he offered me 10% off. So i left got back in the car and went to agrispares a small local agri supplies. Went in and he said yep no probs 52 quid and made one up for me there and then. Spot on now ive just got to have fun fitting it.
