my guess is an airportable jcb of some vintage...with a fold down cab arrangement to get in to the transport aircraft...


The MOD still have a few 3cx's with a similar idea.....

Looks like a cross breed between a backhoe and a flying saucer.

Nooo Robban :dizzy: flying saucer indeed .. mind you i do have one here for you Robban, it might even be rotting somewhere in Sweden today

Was it done for a machinery exhibition? and was Mr Bamfords own design.

Yes Martyn, it was based on 1963 JCB 3C mk1, designed by a chap called Brook Stevens, it had a JCB 3 dipper and self levelling front loader .. it was JCB's idea of what a future JCB would look like .. the cab was made of wood and plactic.

yes a cabriolet :thumbs_up: ..this was made for a customer in Sweden for snow clearing duties in 1963, it is 2 wheel drive, the larger front tyres aided buoyancy in the snow.

Here is another one i found ..its the prototype JCB 1, seen here in 1960, they based this on one of the dumpers that JCB made at the time ..
