TBH I'm getting tired of this machine.

We fixed the high engine oil pressure problem this morning by putting the spring out of the old oil pressure relief valve into the new valve. We now have 40psi at idle instead of 120psi.

So... for only the second proper time since I imported this yellow maggot of steel we tried to work with her. 10 mins in and the front left wheel intermittently stopped turning. We only had basic tools so undid the hub bolts but didn't have circlip pliers or a big enough socket to remove the wheel. I can see there's a crack in the hub and no liquid came out of the drain bolt. The entire hub/wheel assembly flops around like it might have a collapsed bearing?

If someone could glance at the video and tell me what to order I'd be grateful. I guess it's an entire front hub replacement?

I dunno. I've opened a cold beer

*sigh*

Is the movement all from the hub or is there slop in the swivel joints?

The swivel joints are OK. The hub is buggered. I guess the big bearing failed.

We got the wheel and hub cover off today for a better look. It's not pretty.

Is this what it looks like?

That machine isn't yellow - it's lemon.

^ That's the crack sir, but the real damage is at the 'back' of the hub where I'm pointing in the photo.

We've almost got the hub off now. Back into it after I find a three legged puller to get the annulus out. It doesn't want to come off the spline.

There's bits of roller bearing etc. all through the sun and planetary gears. Ha

The gouging in front of your finger is from the bolt heads?
(trying to work out what is cause and what is effect)
Hopefully the gears are ok.

yes Gecko. The stub axle bolt heads have torn the hub to bits. I surmise the wheel bearing(s?) failed first and the damage to just about everything else is a result of roller bearings being munched through the hub internals.

The wheel bearing may have failed some time ago. I'll start the search for a used hub assembly on Monday.

The damage to the inner face of the annulus may not be a problem, but the other side if it is a mess so it's now junk. The sun and planetary gears are sort of OK and could probably be re-used, but the best option is probably a complete hub from a donor vehicle. Backhoes are rare in New Zealand so it may not be easy to get one from mainland NZ. I doubt we'll see this machine in use again until next year
