While working on the machine today I realised that the backactor is missing a rather critical bit...
I'd been wondering what the thing that looks like 'mouring' post on the King post did and then I noticed two lugs on the lower part of the boom and it clicked; there's meant to be forging like a wishbone on there that folds down over that mouring post and is len locked in secured with a pin whenever you are traveling!
I'm guessing that it looks not too disimilar to this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JCB-4C-BOOM- ... Sw8~RbSKkM and may even be that part. Guess I'll be calling Vicary on Tuesday then...
What are the JCB 3CX Varients and a basic Operators guide?

Another thing that's missing is the loader arm safety strut, I'd rather not be working under the bonnet without one, that is unless I can find something tall enough, and strong enough, round here to rest the front bucket on when I am. I don't think our old steel drop together scaffolding is quite beefy enough. Yet another reason for me to get my 4 post ramp down here and installed, that would at least give me something to rest the bucket on!
I'm also going to need a new one of the funky control lever universal joints, the one for the front loader is quite badly worn, as are most of the pins and bushes for both levers and the two of the clevis pins where they connect the lever rods to the actuator pistons.

If you prop the front bucket/arms to the ground be sure the machine cannot roll. Guess it would be nice to have the proper lock and will not compromise safety.

Indeed
I'm wondering now if I could make use of the Q-Fit on the front end...remove the bucket and use it's top hooks to rest on something like a scaffold pole fixed to the support posts of our tractor shed, like a giant chin-up bar
Only slight snag is that the dry break quick-release hydraulic couplings have been removed, and I could only find one of them in the cab while I was cleaning it out. A new one would probably be more expensive than a second-hand safety strut

Thanks Graham. I've shifted my ramblings over to the Projects section now as I'd kinda gone way off topic here...
Thanks to Vicary Plant I got my hands on a used Ram Prop which I'll wire brush off and paint up soon.
In addition to the button on the loader lever, I also have a 'clutch' pedal who's action clearly only operates another electrical switch

Mind you, in a related vane to this topic, any clue as to what these two buttons circled in red and yellow do?
For a while I thought I had to press the red button to start the machine, till I realised the Lucas ignition 'key' did it

Re: What are the JCB 3CX Varients and a basic Operators guide?
Tim - how are you getting on with your new machine?
I've just bought another JCB, this time a 3CX (I had a 3CMk3 prior). I am looking for an operators manual also for this age of 3CX. Mine's a tad older than yours - white cab, but with the Perkins engine under the bonnet.
I'm just about to purchase some filters and oil and this thread has been a Godsend, so thank you!
