My JCB 3C mk111 Powertrain Build 5, now needs its ATF fluid topping up every time I use it. I can’t see an oil leak, so where is it going? When I bought it years ago, I was told to run the engine for a few minutes then check the oil, it has always been fine till just recently.

Run at fast idle for a few minutes then either dip whilst running or immediately on stop.
Does not take much to move a level on the dip stick. Don't overfill as it will blow out of the filler at best.

Could it be that the filter is blocked? I was thinking of changing it.

I might be wrong but I think the filter would by pass if blocked. It would not explain where the oil is going.

I was just wondering if it was backing up when running, so giving a false reading.

Well it could not hurt to eliminate the filter. If the transmission was leaking you should see it somewhere. As far as I can remember the gear box is not sealed to the shuttle but I guess you could check the gearbox level.
If the converter end was leaking I would think oil would be seen coming out of the bell housing.
