Are you talking the old 3C 111? If you are then dropping the bottom plate will drop the oil as far as i can remember. I thought the plate was on the same side as the big filter housing behind the hinged cover/door?

thanks for the reply
it is a 3c mark 3 powertrain

The strainer is fitted above a thick metal plate which is located just inside where you place your foot to climb into the door. it is on the opposite side to the big hydraulic oil vertical filter.

im worrying that it will drop all hydraulic oil when i go to clean the metal strainer....

Hi,
When you remove the plate you will loose all the oil in the reservoir, say about half the total hydraulic oil. Be prepared for, (from memory), possibly 15 or 20 gallons, (100 litres). Drain the oil through the drain plug in the plate before removing it.
Fully extend all rams to minimise the oil in the reservoir before you start.
