Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum, as well as being a noob when it comes to heavy equipment servicing, i am, however, very mechanically inclined and can't wait to start using my new (to me) piece of eqipment.
I'm recently acquired my first piece of equipment, a JCB loader / backhoe. It has some hydraulic issues, I have scoured the web and this site
, but just can't seem to find much info on machine, I have email JCB and all I get is ambiguous information, one says it's this and another
says it's that. Below is what I know and don't know.
make: JCB
Model: 1550B
Serial: 15 / 311027 / P / T / 17 (as stamped on frame)
Year: unkown
Engine Type: Perkins (rebuild) runs well
Transmission Type: unkown
Hydraulic Pump: unkown
I have downloaded the JCB_Workshop_Manual, which say it covers my machine, but after combing through it I don't think it does.
none of the illustrations match, lever location match, direction control valves type and location don't match. Needless to say that
I am confused...
Can anyone give me a breakdown of the serial number and tell me what do all those number mean, what type of transmission this machine
has, any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a few pictures hope the help.
Thanks
David
sorry about the upside serial number.

Re: Machine Identification Help
From my limited experience the year would be between 1985 and early 90's. We would call it a 3cx. It looks as though it's had a 10 gallon make over..
Here they are a sort after classic

Thanks guys for the quick response, I've looked at a few manuals for the 3CX and can't seem to find a match there either. One of the dealers I spoke with said it was a 3D model, by the way what's a 10 gallon make over?

Re: Machine Identification Help
gudday David and welcome
Im not gunna be much help for you with your JCB, but I will say I agree with digger jones reply, it does look from that era to me
mate a 10 gallon make over would be a rebuild done with 10 gallons of paint, or at least thats my take on it

Re: Machine Identification Help
From the machines appearance it does look very much like an 80's era 3CX so I would guess the specs would be pretty much the same?
