3c2 tyres?

Post #1 by SiH » Sat Jul 15, 2017 8:13 pm

Hi all,
I've been offered some 16.5/85 r 28, 10 ply industrial tyres to replace the ropey ones on the back of my 3c2.
Good idea or not?
Cheers boys. :)

What type of tread pattern? It might depend on when and how you use the machine.

Dont know what you would call it but heres a pic- bugger all tread really so dont know if its worth bothering with them. Would the size be much of a hinderance? Smaller diameter OA isnt it than a standard 16.9 r 28?
Theres lots of these tyres, this size here in France,so thats why I'm thinking about fitting some.

I guess you are worried about clearance? The thread will not be brilliant on soft/wet ground on the other hand the more industrial tread often seems to fair better on hard or concrete. Are they cheap and reasonably damage free?

Yep, dont want to reduce its ride height if I can help it. Anyone know the biggest size you can stick on these by any chance?
Most of the time they'll be used on dry ground, and they are €150 for the two, so not too bad.

I've also been offered some 12.5/80 r 18 tyres that were on a dumper, good nick and loads of life left on them. If I can get hold of some 18 inch rims for them, will they be ok on the front of my 3c2? Or is that a bad idea too!?
Thanks all.

We had 18'' on both our Mk 11 and 111. Much better on soft ground. Best were the dumper type with bar tread as they griped the ground when turning. Thinking back the 11 was fitted with 12.5 18 flotation implement tyre but was a b8gger for sliding on slippery surface. I transferred those wheels to the 111. I tried the 12.5 bar (dumper) tread and they fouled the loader arms on full lock with the bucket down. Used a 10.50 80 18 and they were ok. The 12.5 implement type were brilliant on field when we used the diggers for loading bales.

Thanks Pete, thats good to know. I like the look of dumper tyres on the front too, and if it improves use on fields then well worth it, so I bought both 12.5 tyres today before someone else did.
Just have to get hold of some 18 inch rims now then- and I dont see many of them over here,so might have to look for some dumper or trailer rims instead. ;)

Still talking tyres, I got hold of a pair of 16.9r28 ,10ply michelin industrials this week ,with the same tread pattern as above photo. Tried finding the Psi I should inflate to on the tyre walls, and no joy, and likewise on the net. I know tractor tyres are pretty low around 12psi, but hopefully these will be a fair bit more. Any tips boys?
Cheers. ;)

Just managed to get the old girl home last week, so I can repair a few of the things that need doing. I’ve taken one of the front wheels off, and trying to fit on an 18 inch rim off a muckspreader was fine apart from needing to put the valve side of the rim on the inside, and even then the rim lightly rubs the kingpin housing! And thats without any weight on the hub, so thats not good. Could any of you guys tell me the sort of wheel offset or clearance from the kingpin housing the proper wheels have please? Cheers in advance, and heres hoping!?
