JCB 3cx greycab tyre sizes

Post #1 by Stopat2 » Sat Jul 15, 2017 12:10 pm

Hi everyone. I am a recent member and first time poster.
I have a 1988 greycab 3cx 4x4 and I need to replace the 2 industrial tread tyres on the front with agricultural treads. It turns out that the existing tyres are different sizes (Firestone 12.00-18 and 10.5-18) and my question is ,which size should I refit. I can get both sizes in 12 ply. The rear tyres are Barum 18.4-26 12pr agri tread although one is a TZ16 and the other A TZ19. Anyone know what the TZ means? Thanks in advance. Stopat2

Welcome to the forum .
I have the same size rear tyres , but I am unsure about the fronts and I'm nowhere near my machine for a few weeks .
The manual is listing for the front 10.5 x 18 in traction or Firestone or Goodyear 10.5/80 x 18 on a 10 ply tyre . The industrial tyre is 12 x 18 in a 12 ply .Have you seen the download for the manual ?
If you are running on soft ground I would be thinking the widest tyre possible , but some people say narrow for bite which Is ok if you don't mind leaving a mess behind ! . The rolling diameter will be important in that both back and front tyres should cover the same ground in 4wd .This is probably why the manual states exactly what size of tyre can be used .
Obviously 4wd should only be engaged when you think you will need it as you'll probably know .

Sorry , I was bored and googled the TZ markings , I think it's something to do with side protection and might be the model of Barum tyre .

Hi Land Rover. Thanks for the reply. I have opted for a pair of 10.5 traction tyres. My local JCB dealer was unsure which size would be most suitable so hopefully non of the sizes listed will do any harm.
