Hi,
well two firsts,
my first time on CMN and i have been reading lots of interesting posts on here.
Also bought my first JCB the other day, a nice clean JCB 3CX 4WD non-turbo, year is 1988, (Fwd/Rev shuttle is on the steering column)
I was wondering if anyone has an owners handbook for this JCB that i can download? as i am not familiar with all aspects of the machine, but i am looking forward to learning
Thanks
Bill.

Re: 1988 JCB 3CX 4WD Grey Cab
Hi Bill,
you may have seen my posting re my newly acquired grey cab. My is an '89 with turbo but basically the same machine I guess. Like you I am looking for a manual and had no joy yet so if you find one let me know and I will do likewise. It may be that we can be of help to each other given the similarities of our machines. What condition is yours in and what do you feel needs doing to it?
Cheers
Greg

Re: 1988 JCB 3CX 4WD Grey Cab
Hi Greg,
Wish you luck with your machine. I suppose at the age of these machines, some element of luck is required although they are pretty robust it seems.
My machine is in overall in pretty good condition, Cab is decent, All control covers are in place, Cab Fully Glazed, most lights are there although some not working. King Post is about 60%. Instruments seem ok. Engine is nice and smooth, starts easy from cold and no smoke etc. Bushings are nice and tight in the steering etc.
The only major issue, it has a pretty bad leak in the Boom Ram.
Typical, It is the most difficult ram to get at as it turns out
The general advice is to
1. get the boom down as low as possible
2. remove the top pin
3. retract the rod
4. release pressure and remove the pipes
5. use lots of muscle to wrestle the ram out
I am not sure if i will unpack/pack the ram myself or bring it to a shop to get it done. My brother tells me that he has done a few on his old Hymac 580 and says it not that bad if you have decent equipment and workbench etc.
So i will see how i get on.
What condition is your 89 in ?
I believe the turbo is nice if you are doing road work, no need for changing down gears when a hill is encountered .

Re: 1988 JCB 3CX 4WD Grey Cab - Owners Handbook
Hi All
Why are the Owners Handbooks so hard to get?
One would think with all the JCB 3CX's of this vintage that was sold that there would be lots of these floating about?
Thanks
