Does anybody have any tips on how to free a stuck clutch on a 1974 JCB 3c by any chance? Its a 5 speed manual, and has been sat for 3+ years.
Any advice would be great.

Just to add: When I press the clutch down, there's the normal resistance, but when you push it down all the way there is a grating noise/rumble that comes back through the pedal,-doesn't seem good to me!? Whilst pressing the clutch as normal, the gears grate if you try and select any of them.

Sounds like the spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft is past it.

I wonder if the brakes work? If it runs jack it up on the legs, stop engine put it in top gear and with the clutch pressed down start it again at the same time as holding the brakes on. It might just let go. A bit of a pig to tow. I expect SiH is right there might a problem other than just the plate stuck.

The brakes work fine, but still wont free it-it`ll stall first.Might wizz some WD** through the plate on the side of the bellhousing and see if it helps?-or will it ruin the friction lining?

is it hydraulic or mechanical linkage on the clutch I wonder if the clutch maybe doesnt have full travel and needs bleeding I dont think you will be that lucky and most likely will need to pull the clutch

Its a mechanical Clutch on this. I`m going to wait until I get the machine home before I do any more, then burn it around the field and drive it into a mound of soil-hopefully freeing the clutch! If not,I`ll strip it apart and do it properly, and maybe put a new plate in,or do whatever needs doing. Cant wait! :)

I don't think is that difficult to do the clutch on these if you remove the battery and battery tray it's all done without having to split the gearbox, so you may be able to free it off by doing the same process I think there is a thread on here somehere about it. What year is this machine, i think that there are a couple of types of clutches on 3c's Bronze Sintered ones were used on some machines on certain years. If you are not sure of the year put a few pictures on here and i am sure we will be able to help.

It's an old m reg,1974 I think. There are some pics of it on another post I made recently called "which jcb?"
Thanks Topkit for your info. It's a 3c or a 3c2 maybe(there's the remains of the "11" on the right hand wing?,but the vin plate shows 3c?)
Does anyone know of some PDFs downloads for a 3c please? The ones I've seen are deactivated?
:)

What sort of downloads Simon. The manuals are in the downloads section, and are pretty useful.
