What is the pedal to the right in the foot well? I wondered if it is part of the locking mech for the detachable b/h?

Hello Walt, that was in October 2005 issue.
I hope it has pto. didn't look when I first saw it because I didn't know anything about it then.

Hi folks ,as I have posted before the 2B11 production stopped in 1970. JCB 2 production started in 1964 and did not have detachable back actor, see JCB 2C post for a picture. Not long after production had started the JCB 2B was announced with same styling but with a detachable back actor. The styling was changed in 1967 and looked similar to the mk2 range. These machines kept the old style back actor, and cabs which looked like mk2 cabs but had doors which opened outwards rather than sliding doors. 2B mk2 produced from 1968.
The first machine of your two photos looks to be an early 3C mk2
The second photo is a mk2 2B or 2D depending if it has 3 or 4 cylinders

Yep the pedal releases the top part of the backhoe (when I manage to free it up). Cheers Christopher I will be on the lookout for a copy now!
Thanks Mike I now realize I have a 'restyled' 2b mk1 and it was only around for roughly a year .Would you know the position of the tail/stop lights on my 2b? I know they were under the indicators on the mk2 but my cab has rusted away there and so there are no clues, in my old parts book there is a pic of a tail light that straps to the backhoe but don't know if that was for my machine or the early 2b.

Thanks for the info jcb-mad. I used to be jcb-daft, probably still am.
Would the cab on the early 3c mk2 be anything like what would have been on a 2bii.
The owner of the 2b told my dad it is a 3 cylinder and it does have the rear lift as though it would have a removable back actor so fairly sure it is a 2bii now.
I really need to go for a second look now.
cheers

Hi, sorry to resurrect an older post but it is very relevant! What is a JCB 2D MK2? Especially in comparison to a 3C MK2? Am I to take it from what I have read above the 2D is a 4/98 Leyland same as a 3C, with a detachable back hoe?

Thanks in advance, Max

It was basically a 2B ( all round slightly smaller than a 3C ) but with the 4cyl engine as opposed to the 2B's 3cyl.
I would have thought a useful machine but saw very very few in service. Probably because the all conquering 3C had such good resale values.
They did not advertise a detachable backhoe like they did with 2B for the 2D but some say the 2D did detach.

Mike Yates has it bang on. Don't believe everything you read in magazines. The 1968 3Cmk2 had the same cab as the 2Bmk2 and 3mk2. Also Walt, your 2B looks to be a 1967 machine. 1967 was a very special year for prototype odd ball machines for JCB.
