Hi newbie to the forum here. I have a 1982 3cx white cab with perkins 4.236 engine. I am about to pull the engine out to rebuild with new pistons liners etc.
While I have experience working on cars and vans I've not worked on anything like the 3cx before. Can the engine be lifted out from the top after splitting from the bellhousing or will I need to drop the gearbox first.
Thanks in anticipation.
Andy

Re: 3cx engine removal
if you are only replacing piston's and liners you don't have to remove the engine, with the perkins 4236 you can remove the head and sump, you only need to remove it if you are removing the crankshaft.

Re: 3cx engine removal
Thanks for the reply. The machine is in the middle of a field so if there is clearance to lift the engine out to work in the comfort of my garage. Might not be a bad idea to drop the sump to get an idea of the condition of the crank journals before removing the engine.
