Buying a 3cx with problems?

Post #1 by justamin » Thu Dec 04, 2014 3:50 pm

~I hope someone can help with this..... I've been offered a Y-reg (1982/3) white cab 3CX for small money. It's got a standard back actor and 4-in-1 on the front, all glass is in the cab and its tidy (if rusty!) for the year, however the forward clutch pack is u/s. Also the seller is adamant it's got a perkin's engine, but I didn't think the perkins came in until the grey cabs?

So, how difficult is it to remove the transmisson and replace the clutch pack, and how much should I budget?

many thanks in advance

Ash

The very first white cabs (80-81) had Leyland engines and Perkins came in from 82. It's not overly difficult to remove the gearbox.I rolled mine out on a trolley jack years ago to replace an oil seal. Can't help with the clutch packs though. Maybe marka108 will be able to tell you more, from the JCB troubles thread.

once the gearbox and shuttle unit are removed it is not too hard to strip and rebuild the shuttle , parts should be a couple of hundred quid including the pump from what I can remember
