1992 Ford 555C float on the front loader

Post #1 by Fred1969 » Sun Dec 15, 2013 2:31 pm

Does anybody know if all Ford 555C's came with the float function on the front loader? I assumed they did but the one I just bought either doesn't have it or it don't work correctly. :?:

Bump...

Old thread i know and with no response! But i was wondering the same thing about my 555C... i believe it is considerably older than 1992!

But, the gear stick and loader control stick it have gear knobs which resembles an old Automatic Landcruiser gear knob.
On the edge of each is a red 'thumb' button!
They aren't locking switches, they appear to be momentary switches (they only contact whilst being held down)!

I kind of surmised that the one on the gear stick was possibly an overdrive and the one on the loader stick was for float, but then thought that it would be a locking switch for float (just seemed more practical)

I have tried doing various maneuvers with and without the buttons pressed or held and they appear to do nothing that i have noticed!

In all probability its most likely that whatever they operated is knackered rather than the buttons being spare!

I am not familiar with the Ford but are sure the buttons are not transmission disconnect/dump for changing gear or stopping drive whilst lifting? Perhaps they are damaged or not wired up?

I had the dubious honour of piloting one over in oz in 93/94, I seem to remember the button was for transmission dump and to float the bucket you had to push the lever all the way forward and it locks .
