Local Kingpost Mechanic Required

Post #1 by Petej247 » Sat Feb 25, 2023 6:54 pm

Hi -
I have a 1985 3CX needing its kingpost replaced. I have bought the kit including carrier, have the workshop space and lifting kit, just need someone who has done this before to come in an do the job.

Located near Bewdley, Worcestershire. Please message to give me a cost.

Many thanks

That's looks like a big job.

One suggestion I'd possible do, is put a long ditching bucket on, so its pretty stable when detached.

What was/is the problem with the king post, I have a 94 3cx which has play in the king post. What parts are you replacing? if you don't mind me asking.

Hi Norm, apologies for the late reply.

My boom was sloppy in the horizontal axis, eventually a couple of bangs and the splines gave out meaning that the top of the kingpost could be seen turning, but the boom stays still or falls in the direction of gravity.

Upon stripping the splines on the carried were almost smooth. I bought a kit from Vicary which I've managed to do myself despite the post above!!

Cheers

Thanks Ady, that's exactly how I did it, only I removed the boom outside the barn then took the parts inside to exchange. Taking lots of time and having the lifting equipment and plenty of trays / soaking up materials for dropped fluids is essential.
