Cat 615C Elevating scraper

Post #1 by Jeremy Rowland » Thu Apr 21, 2011 10:04 pm

Well living in the heart of the Black Country as I do you are hardly likely to come across any scrapers whatsoever, so it was a pleasant surprise for me to come across a pair of Cat 615C elevating scrapers working only around 2 miles or so away from where I live :o
I only caught a brief glimpse of these machines as I was driving back from a friends house last night, anyway I decided to try and get a closer look today and was very surprised to find the machines on open ground so I managed to get quite a few pics which I will post in two lots as and when I get them re-sized.
These machines are supposed to be on this site for a few weeks so I may just pop down with the camcorder too.
I would assume that this site is going to have housing built on it but don't know for sure?
The first pics show the drivers doing pre-operation checks and maintenance on the first scraper.

Nice pair of egg beaters there! Only know of one other down here belonging to Ivan Pilcher. He reckons they're ace for topsoil stripping.

Thanks Nick, it is sadly rare to find this type of machinery at work these days so I was very happy to have stumbled upon these pair of machines at work.
Here are the second batch of pics and I have tried to show a full load and dump cycle :P

Cheers guys  that was a nice bit of footage by RolyD8K; there is something both graceful and agile about these machines, scrapers in general are one of the more unique pieces of construction kit about.
As said above they are great for stripping top soil and the pair I was watching were both easily filling their bowls without any problem, I must make an effort to ge back and get some more shots, and footage I hope? Will also keep an eye on the land development to see what goes up there, this is part of a small wedge of greenbelt land that forms the back end of Sandwell valley.

Top man Jeremy great photos .You must have been tempted to ask if you could have spell on one of them.
It must have been a real surprise when you first spotted them. Great to see they are not extinct yet.

I'd love a go in one but chance would be a fine thing!
