463H scrapers

Post #1 by Rolyd8k » Thu Dec 27, 2007 7:40 pm

In oct 1998 we moved in to earthmove for a straw burning
power station at Sutton cambridgeshire, our machines were five
D8s on boxes with a D868A push tractor, the structure had
to finish at ground level with only the chimney visible above
ground,this involved a total topsoil strip,then dig a massive
big hole for the power station and spread the soil into
landscape areas all around the site, total volume was over 300k
we needed to crack on before winter sets in,that means bigger
loads,i drove the pusher and camera :dizzy:

Great Photos as ever Roly !!

Its just great to see so many D8 & Boxes in action!! I wish I had the skill and ability to run one myself, but I think for starters I would struggle to reach the pedals with my little "stumpy" legs!!

Do you have problems finding operators for the D8's these days??

thanks everyone , Nick, glad to see you
had a good xmas break, dont worry about
the short legs we can put blocks on the peddles
drivers not too much of a problem, less since we converted our
boxes to hydraulics, and got away from winches and cables,
the youngest driver is a keen 20 year old,the oldest is a not
so keen 70 year old,no rearly there a good happy bunch.
this power-station job we finished just before christmas out
of the 300k we moved 220k trucks did the rest, thankfully the
weather held but turned wet two days after we finished and
heaped big loads i,m sure did count.

good pics as always Rolly but why is it that all towed pans have smaller wheels on the front axel
and would a self propeled machine cut down make a good pull scraper as well ?????
