Cat 830MB
Cat 830MB
I've owned this scraper for about 7 years. When I bought it it had 236 hrs. on the meter and it now has 525 hrs. I had 2 others that were 830M's which were cable machines with a starting engine. This 830MB is almost good as new and never needs nothing except greasing and fuel, which it uses lots of. Its equal to a Cat 627 but maybe better in soft running and it loads its self full in good dirt.

Hi, Dale.
Thanks for sharing. I have not heard any bad reports that I can remember (Selective memory loss????) about these jiggers. You are also not the only one to say that they could beat a 627 in softer going.
Have you had some problems with the return spring on your accelereator pedal? LOL.

Re: Cat 830MB
Good looking machine, I missed a deal on a 290M Clark for cheap. It used the same bowl and was a similar machine I think both were made for use in Vietnam. My neighbor that recently passed away sold us one of a blade assembley he had off an 830 oe 290M when we bought the feller buncher from him. We put it in place of the shear of the feller buncher to use as weight on our 518 Cat to make a rubbish compactor out of. I think thses folks bring in an 830 or two every now and again. http://www.clark290m.com/static/photo.html

Re: Cat 830MB
Merv, the bowls were made under a seperate gov. contract. I've heard Curtiss-Wright, Wabco and one other, maybe MRS. I'm no expert, but this is what I've picked up from various forums over the years. Capacity is around 20 yards heaped, but don't quote me on that! if you use Cat (or Caterpillar) 830, 830M, 830MB or Clark 290M (it's competitor) as search terms, you can find a lot of pix and links to discussions about these on the HEF, ACME and ACMOC forums. Probably find some here on the CMN too.
Happy hunting!
