There's a few more about than you may think. There are some within a few miles of my yard(cat 613b,some TS 24A/B's and maybe a few Cat 641's.
Don't think that I'll evere get to see any TS24's working in this country again though.Just too noisy.

Re: How many left?
HI Paul, the Cat 613B belongs to a mate of mine just down the road but it doesn't work for a living allthough it's in tidy shape.
The 24's belong to Kevin Morgan and they are lying near Finnings (Winsford depo').I last worked with them in 2001 and couldn't tell you when they last worked.I'm sure he's still got some 641's lying about (ex Morshan's of Wigan) and a few D9G's.

I agree its a shame there are not many scraper fleets kicking about and think some of the health and safety on sites is a little OTT!
Bring back the good old days!

P.S just remembered Blackwells had some 637G's but am not sure if they still have them!

Did anyone watch the prog about the national Grid on the box this evening? - a few seconds of a fleet of 5 or 6 Euclid TS 14 or 24s doing the earth works for a new power station.

Re: How many left?
I was at Shotton only a couple of months ago and saw some of their 631/637's parked up. I had a conversation to one of the site supervisors about them and he said they would probably not get put to work again! Sad news as i watched these machines strip the top soil for the Fox Covert and Shotton sites with great interest. I have a site visit arranged at Brenkley in the next couple of weeks and will ask the question about the fate of the scrapers when i'm there.

Re: How many left?
The mention of moving motorscrapers on the road, which was common practice well into the 70's, reminded me of many hairy incidents that took place over the years. Hampton's 14s on route to M1Hendon via the A40,meeting some Shellibare Price machines travelling the other way in the middle of HighWycombe on market day! Or the 14 stuck in the arch on the acient bridge in the middle of Monmouth, the list goes on. There was a guy called Chris Wadsworth in the Monmouth area back in the mid 60s who had four 24s which naturaly were always roaded, but he also had a Scammell trailer with a dolly which was hitched behind one of the 24s to move the 9. That would most ceartainly be a hanging offence today. Health and safety eat your heart out.

Re: How many left?
Hi Nick, I have enjoy your knowledgeable comments throughout the CMN site. Re lifting the apron, I very nearly came to grief with that one night shift when I was with Costain. We had 24s on a long haul and to liven things up in the early hours we were racing, I was doing great untill the guy in front, who naturaly I was catching, did just that on the haul road. I was flat out with both feet hard on the boards when I went airbourn. Lets say it ruined a perfectly good pair of Marks&Spencers underpants! Blackguarding, not much room for that now. Must ask are you kin to Mick Lamb? Worked with him and his Dad Tommy on several Hampton sites back in the 60s. Cheers.
