Seems odd that the engines seem to take it in turns to make the black smoke - you'd think that they would give themselves a jolly good talking to and get their act together
I guess each engine drives the axle nearest to it and reacts to the load on it....
Julian.

Scrapers have 2 throttle pedals one for each engine, I have watched this clip a couple of times and as an ex scraper driver of 8 years I have never seen anyone self load quite like that. The front engine should be doing most of the work as it supplies power to ther hydraulics and steering.

It made my eyes water a bit, I found myself looking over my shoulder checking for the Slasher's L/Rover, its best to have things popped into the right gear and having a bit of power on.

Was watching two of them last week at Aberthaw powerstation, there is something strange at all the coal sites I have been to.Enormous stock piles of coal everywhere, a lot more than normal.

2 reasons martyn
1) price - cheap spotprices
2) demand - down - but this cold snap should sort that out abit
(according to a article i read in the Yorkshire post 'last' year, which is reverse of acouple of years ago when forward prices were climbing rapidyl and suplies of coal and gas were being diverted to higher biders as demand climbed in china and else were).
Big users like the steel industry are are shut down so not using coal or electric or gas like they were.

Thanks Dave
Thought it would be along those lines but,its the amount stockpiled that surprised me.About 5 times normal in Newport docks alone. There is so much there you got a job to park there.
May take a photo of it Thursday, the pile is about 35 foot high

Hi Martyn
Talking about coal & powerstations, I've just seen 'How do they do That' on tv and it was at Drax. It said Drax can use 2000 ton per hour (so stock pile will not take long to go at that rate).
How much do your coal trains haul per load ?

Re: 637s pourin on the coal
Hello Dave
2000 tonnes per train on average,it takes about hour and a half to load a train with two Cat loaders.About twenty minutes to empty it.
There is talk of 3000 tonne trains this year.Passing loops and resignalling have made this possible.Max speed of train is 60 mph when loaded.
