Larry Webb was the first contractor in the UK to buy Cat 627 push-pull
scrapers, someone might remember him running these TS24,s and where
the job is.

Always thought that the GM engine was the norm and that anything else was a special order?
These machines working at Roxwell near Chelmsford in about 1963 had Leyland engines!

Re: Larry Webb,s TS24,s
Cracking pictures Roly and Angus!
Roly, on the early Foden dumptrucks the tipping rams projected well below the chassis and the dozer blade and it's mounting frame (which had a heavy crossmember below the bumper) was fitted to always strike first, or remove objects that may catch and damage the rams! The one in your photo looks a later model and the blade was probably used for tidying up the tip area.
The NCB had AEC Mamoth Major and early AEC Dumptruks fitted with similar blades which were made by Bomfords IIRC.

Re: Larry Webb,s TS24,s
Good pictures and it brought back memories of my time with Larry Webb.I worked there for almost 3 years. Regarding the pics TS24 number 9 was bought new in 1968 at Bristol Airport , 10 and 11 were used and bought for a job in Anglesey North Wales and were also Cummins powered. The others were new in 1970 and were GM powered. It looks like my brother Dick on Number 9 as he normally operated that one. I think the job is M4 nr Swindon Wilts as French had a section next to it ..
As regards the 627 Pus Pull Scrapers ,I was the foreman on the job for the M20 in Kent and we did have the first Push Pull 627,s in the country ,We had 6 on that job.The picture with 2 men standing is me on the right and Jim Bailey on the left.
