sterling B695 towed scraper

Post #1 by D6 Merv » Tue Jun 30, 2009 6:43 am

Gidday all
I,ve got a Sterling B695 towed scraper, which was supposedly made by International Harvester in great britain, which then made its way here all the way to the bottom of the world in New Zealand.
Have any of you guys over there got any info about them, and what I really would like is a spec sheet if someone has one that they could post on here; hopefully one I can copy and print.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Merv

Hi,

I've got a stirling B695 fully restored which I've had for nearly 10 years. I've got a copy of the original promo literature of 1954 somewhere. If I can remember where I'll send you a copy. There are a few about, but only a few. I made 1 out of 2, the restored one is serial no. 127 the breaker was 95. One recently sold in an auction for about £2500 in wiltshire England I believe. You can see picture of my outfit if you go into scrapers and find "some old classics" and scroll down.

Great pics of yours Clive, nice looking D7G.
Ive got a D6D 31X3620 a japanese built direct injection model with a Birtley 70 scoop B3W258 that was converted to hydraulic; and works quite well.
Heres some more pics

Hi Merv,

The Sterling B695 is actually a Blaw-Know design built under license.
Does your scoop have a Sterling serial number plate on it or is it in fact one of the CPC-6 variant which were built under license in New Zealand ?

Ah Blaw-Knox they appear to have made a lot of different construction machinery including crawler cranes but are a bit of a mystery company, apart from their pavers. :ugeek:

They even sold motor scrapers, but I wonder how much of their extensive line was actually made by other companies and badged? Just a theory .......

Attached is an Ex Murdoch McKenzie International with a B-K blade.

Hi Dave,

That Blaw-Knox blade looks very Bucyrus-Erie in design !

Someone else made mention of the fact that Blaw-Knox also built a motor scraper.
I believe it was called the Goliath.
Does anyone out these have any photos or can tell me how many were made ?
