657G's in Victoria, Australia

Post #1 by Stinger » Wed Mar 04, 2009 7:14 am

Here are some pictures of our 657G's working at a mineral sands operation in Victoria.
The material is very tightly packed and extremely abrasive. We use teeth on the cutting edges of the leading scraper in the push pull operation to ease the loading of the material into the bowl.
They are "poetry in motion" to watch and they sound awesome. We are operating 6 units of this model at this site.

Looks like the teeth apply to much force against the support as there is a big chunk missing.

Roly, i have never seen white stripes across the planetaries on any scraper in Australia, it is a US thing and while i do agree with some of there methods getting aussie dirt bosses to do things that are done in the US can sometimes be a, well lets just leave it at that!!!

To me the white stripe is like putting a white x on a bolt head indicating it is done up, it,s a falacy and the stripe or the x does not mean the wheels can not be spun or the bolt is done up. Operating the machine correctly or tensioning the bolt is what is required not girlie stripes or texta marks!!!

Besides the fleet of 657G's we are also running a fleet of 651E's on this site that are being pushed by D11R's.
We have a couple of old 651B's as backup units & a Komatsu D475A is taking care of the ripping.
None of our scrapers run stripes on the hubs, we don't have a big issue with wheel-spin.
It all comes down to training and supervision.
Most of our scraper operators follow the machines from site to site and are very experienced.
We also have our own operator trainer who knows scrapers very well. He travels the sites mentoring and sharing his knowledge with our operators enabling our scraper jobs to be very productive.
