Komatsu WS 235 motor scraper

Post #1 by tim » Tue Jun 10, 2008 10:03 pm

In one of my heavy haulage books i came across a pic of a Komatsu WS235 motor scraper belonging to Blackwells on one of their low loaders. Have any members come across any of these machines.Tho photo was taken in 1993 and the machine was on route to the Linton opencast site in Northumberland. Tim.

Hi Graham It would be nice to see one in action, looks like you had a good day on Sunday, as you can see i had a bit of trouble with a couple of 360 drivers but i think they've seen the error of their ways. Tim

Hi Tim, they were working on the A1M at Boroughbridge around 93/94 striping topsoil for McAlpine. Good machine on the flat but going up hill on grass they span the wells and had to be pushed bu a D9G, the Cat 631s just passed them to the stock pile never seamed to need a push.

If you weren't paying attention that Komatsu could easily be mistaken for a CAT, especially if viewing from a distance.

A few of these Komatsu motorscrapers were or maybe still are working at Kilvington gypsum mine nr Newark Nottinghamshire. They belong to HCL i think but that may be incorrect.
The Komatsu WS23S-2 had a Komatsu SA6D140E-1 engine( the dash 1 had a Cummins KT-1150-1A engine), a suspended front axle with nitrogen over oil cylinders. No cushion on these i'm afraid!
