Wabco had two twin engine elevating scraper models, 252 at 20 plus yards, 333FT or later version 353 30 plus yards. Wabco used Allison Transmissions and Wabco final drives. 252 was hydraulic driven elevator, 333FT and 353 elevators electric driven. Transmissions had VIP convertor stators to reduce efficiency of convertor so more power available for elevator in load range. The elevator drive system on 333 and 353 was the basic original R.G. LeTourneau electric system. The Wabco scrapers had fixed blade bases with only floor moving when dumping. Am guessing the Michigan scrapers pictured were comparable size to 252 Wabco. Think Michigan also used fixed blade base with only floor moving back when unloading. Basically both scrapers used the original Hancock design vs the moveable cutting edge and floor.

Nicky this might be of interest to you. Know in late 60's or early 70's the design features were sketched and discussed on restaurant napkins for 252 at dinner with Wabco engineers, service reps and Kaolin miner Billy Jackson in Kaolin region of Georgia. Kaolin is a slippery material, Jackson became owner of numerous 252's if remember correctly he also had the IH was it 444 and might have tried others as well. The 252 developed into a very reliable machine when Wabco discontinued scraper business in early 80's. You are well aware that no matter what size the manufacturer brings to market the box, scraper, pan, what ever called is never enough capacity, ie side boards, hungry boards what ever called. Know of a rental contractor in Ca had if recall correctly 30 plus 633 self loading Cats. A 252 was demoed on one of his jobs, he purchased as remember and immediately embarked on efforts to get factory to enlarge scraper. Do know that he poured a very precise concrete slab to set machine on and lengthened the scraper. Can't recall how many he eventually had or if was ever able to have any manufactured to his specs. These are recollections from that time period with no attempt to embellish the information. And yes they were a dirt hog.
