R L Taylor's Scania R730 V8 and Nooteboom trailer

Post #1 by Jim M » Wed Sep 05, 2012 9:05 pm

Took these on Monday just before moving the Volvo EC700C from one quarry to the other up the road. I don't know much about trucks but i like this one. This one has custom made exhaust stacks made by the owners son Matt who also drives this truck . Apart from machine moving R L Taylor also own and run a crushing and screening business which is based in Okehampton ,Devon which operates in the Southwest. More can be found on the web sites below.

Nice outfit!

I would have thought a 4 axle unit would have been better with loads like that, and give more tolerance on the axle weights. Nice looking load tho'.

Here's a few more of Richard Taylors, I took them in 1990, I've an idea the 142 had been pensioned off to bulker work and a 143 450hp was the new King of the Road

the three axles on that tractor would be grossly over the top with that 700 on board, but if it is an internal move no harm done.

SAF, do a 15 ton axle so on a reduced speed (12 mph) thats still like sucking mud up a straw, nothing beats a few more axle lines, the 4 axle tractor is a nice option, so is an Interdolly neck or even a jeep dolly, good old air bags???

Glad I'm not the only truck anorak! You cant beat too many wheels on your wagon, except when you drive over a pale of nails...................or you need to re-rubber it!

nice pics mudgy.

Just so you don't think we are a bunch of southern hill-billies!!, we usually run this outfit at this weight with a 2 axle interdolly, unfortunately we couldn't on this move as there are access difficulties. We are running on the axle limits of the unit and are restricted to 12mph, its only 1 mile of highway so this isn't a problem.
Also this trailer is equipped with BPW axles all round so we are legally allowed to go up to 16.5ton although there are speed restrictions.

Thanks
