One of our 836's about to go back out after coming in for a couple of re-works. Hauled by Ascroft transport of Tarleton, Preston.

Great pictures Stuart !
What would that machine weigh (approx) ?
It must play havoc with the (tarmac ?) surface of your yard.

On the subject of floors.....
I recall visiting Peoria in 2000, and in the Trac type Tractor assembly building, the floor was made of hardwood blocks placed on end and sealed in a tar like material. Aparantly they do this because it's comfortable to walk on, it's easy to take bits up if you need to lay cables etc. underneath it, and if you drop anything (tools), they don't become damaged. We were very surprised at the use of this traditional material.

Hullo there John,

836H weighs in with an operating weight of around 53,000 kg's.
Couple of other specs.
Length: 10182 mm
Height: 4589 mm to top of cab

35 tips per wheel and yes they do tend rip the yard up a bit, tried a few options but the best still seems to be slow and steady across the yard and avoid full lock or hard turns. Where we can we try not to move them around too much.

The system in Peoria is really clever and simple, pity we can't do it over here!

I'm sure someone (but not me right now) knows what "STGO" means, and what the different categories (1, 2, 3) are. Maybe someone could enlighten me ?

STGO stands for

Special
Types
General
Order
Basically a set of regulations we have to follow to move anything outside of construction & use regulations. I.e Heavier than 44t gross,2.9 m wide,
its a really dull pile of legislations to trail through, but the groups break down in weight bands, which then have axle weight limits, and respective speed limits, but
STGO Cat 1 - 44 - 50t,
STGO Cat 2 - 50 - 80t
STGO Cat 3 - 80 - 150t
Anything over 150t is a special order from the department of transport.
Up to 44t, i have to notify the intended route to just the police, a minimum of 2 clear days before the move takes place,
44-80, 2 clear working days, but i now have to tell the police and relevant highways and structure owners
80 - 150, 5 clear working days, and every man and his dog!!,

Then there are rules regarding statutory attendants, escorting requirements,

if it was easy everyone would do it!!!

On average i aim to do 4-6 notifications a day! somewhere about 45-50 a month, always trying to get them out in time!!!

Not missing doing compactors!! horrible things!, they destroy timbers, and the landfill sites are always crap places to load. and as for tana's with they're full width drums!

Dave,
my mumblings and general witterings....http://normanshowse.blogspot.com/
