Looking for pictures.

Post #1 by thorleif » Sat Jan 31, 2009 3:12 pm

Hello all. I am trying to find pictures of two heavy haulage trucks/companies from , I'd guess, the eighties?.

The first is a blue Volvo F12 6x4 owned by Econofreight and the second is another Volvo F10/12 6x4 which was owned and operated by Magnaload.

Also were these companies British or British subdivisions of European companies?.

Can anyone help?.

Many thanks  .

Hi thorleif

econofreight never got any new f12's they were acquired from other companies, RDC319X came from sunters, and MGE170V And MGE180V from mckelvies/strathclyde heavy haulage

I'm building 319X

Econofreight was a british company, was bought out by brambles an austrailian company, and then got divested and picked up by ALE

Magnaload:, Was a Joint venture between a shipping company from Middlesbrough, and some dutch firm... mammoet... then peckstons went bump.. and econofrieght stepped in.. and the JV became Mammoet Econofreight.. then they went their seperate ways....

As far as i know, Magnaload's Heavy tractors were 2 x F89's Betsy a scammell contractor, and an FTF.. i dont think they lasted long enough to get an F12

But then i have been wrong before....

Thanks Dave, I have looked into this in the past but it all slipped from my poor mind.

This is the only picture I seem able to find.

Wow, thanks Paul . May I ask where you got them from?. Are they your own?.

I like reg no. MGE 170V as the ballast box seems to be the full width of the truck(back) whereas RDC 319X ballast box seems a little narrower

I wonder if WSI Models will ever unveil these as models......

Hi Thorleif,
The photos are from my own collection,
You are correct, the F12 in photo 6 does have a different box on, the wider style.

They are fantastic. I do have a soft spot for the F10,12s etc.

And yes, on closer inspection I see it's two different trucks and ballast boxes.

The Econofrieght F12 truck on Winch duty holding the pontoon in place as the tide moves it IIRC.

Yes, Dave they're all welcome, thanks .

This is the other Volvo I was asking about. I keep getting it mixed up with the Magnaload trucks for some reason :dizzy:.

Does anybody have any info or pics about this one?.

Thanks again.

Thought I recognised that photo, its in "Trucks" by Bob Tuck, published by Ian Allan, on page 109. ISBN 1-85152-593-9 The volvo's are described as TSL units PBE 867S and WEE 512V but no models given. but over the page is another picture of the pair with WEE 512V described as an F12 and the other as N12

Sorry no photo of that one in my collection :(

Dave

Some of the oil rig photos I posted are from that yard and the clock tower in the background.
