I was led to believe by an independent Cummins injection specialist that was down to inadequate cooling provision in the Ford trucks. In mobile plant where larger capacity radiators were generally installed they could be very reliable - our two clocked over 16,000 hrs with little if any attention before a precautionary rebuild.
